Last year after Christmas I found this yarn, handspun Italian wool, on sale at one of my favorite yarn shops and it has been waiting patiently for a pattern to call out it's name. I was browsing through the book AlterKnits by Leigh Radford and I saw this lovely scarf pattern. Italian Wool! it whispered.
It's been awhile since I've been able to enjoy the familiar clickity-click sound of my needles. So I grabbed my knitting bag, a hot cup of my favorite tea and sat on my front porch swing. And I knitted and knitted. I snuggled under a warm blanket and the only thing I could hear was the sound of the rain and the pattern stitches in my head. Therapy indeed...
It's working up really fast and the pattern is a simple 8 row repeat. It's cabled down the center and has a vine lace border on both sides, it's quite elegant. I'm knitting this one for a Christmas gift-shh! Maybe if I have some yarn left over I'll make myself one too. ;)

Well, if that didn't call out the name, I don't know what would! LOL
Love the pattern!! There's something about knitting cables that is so enjoyable. :-)
Very elegant!
I sdee your edges aren't curling. What kind of a selvedge are you using to prevent it?
Maria-yes, I was always so afraid of cables and when I finally decided to give them a try, I got hooked! :)
Anastasia,
I'm slipping the first st of every row knitwise and knitting the last st of each row. I hate curly edges. :)
Wow...it's beautiful. I'm making a few Christmas gifts too...worked on 2 crocheted projects today! I am making a turtle, like Sheldon: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTsheldon.html
That is beautiful!!! I need to dye some wool I have so I can start knitting some sweet little pants for the baby ;o) No cables here - they are gorgeous, but the little ones SO don't appreciate them lol!
Happy Thanksgiving!
So very pretty. As a beginning knitter, cables still intimidate me a lot!
