Orthodox Mom Photo Challenge {september}

I’ve recently become more active on Instagram and when I posted my first few Orthodox photos, I received a lot of comments saying how nice it was to see “Orthodoxy on Instagram”.   And I had to agree.  I love seeing photos of different quotes people post, or churches they’ve visited; I just think it’s beautiful.

I’ve also noticed the various photo of the day lists circulating the social networks lately, so I couldn’t help but think how neat it would be to do an Orthodox photo challenge. Why not flood the internet with creative photos with an Orthodox flair?  I’m really excited about this!  Yes, I’m aware that I totally geek out sometimes but I can’t help it.

So here’s how this is going to go down.

  • The only “rule” is that the photos must be original.
  • You must use the tags for this to work.  Otherwise, your photos will just float in cyberspace.

If you’re on Instagram or Twitter, I’m @ThePrude.  Tag me in your photos and use the #orthodoxmom hashtag.  If you’re on Facebook, upload them to your profile page and tag me in them.

All month long, I’ll showcase select photos.   The list is posted below.  Of course, not every photo will be be Orthodox per se, but the point is to incorporate photos of Orthodoxy in our everyday lives.

Ready, set, click!

You can also download the list here:  September Photo Challenge.  I can’t wait to see all of your photos!!

    1. Absolutely! If you’re not on Instagram, you can post your photos via Twitter or Facebook. Just be sure to tag me @theprude and use the #orthodoxmom tag! 😀

  1. This is a great idea (I am loving this font, btw!)! I have been wanting to do something like this for a while. I have a twitter account, but I rarely use it. I may just stick to facebook for sharing. Can I also share on my blog?

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Glad you’re joining in! Yes, you can share on facebook, just be sure to tag me, otherwise it will be impossible for me to keep track! And you can post the pics on your blog, too, just include a link to the challenge if you don’t mind. 🙂 Glad you like the new look. It’s not finished, but I’m happy with it so far!

  2. I’ve been putting off joining Instagram but this is a good reason to go ahead and bite the bullet. 🙂 I’ll have to learn about the @’s and #’s though so I hope it’s not too hard to catch on! I’ll be visiting my son in North Dakota (far from home for me!) which I think will add a little something for me personally to have photos, specific to Orthodoxy, from my time with him.

    1. Olga, Instagram is a lot less “busy” than facebook so far. I enjoy looking at people’s photos, so it works for me. It’s very simple to use. If you need any help, just let me know. I’m so happy you’ll soon be getting time to spend with your son and am really looking forward to your photos! 🙂

      1. I’m all signed up … if I did this right I’m eightisntenough 🙂

I can’t wait to see my son! I haven’t seen him in literally a year ~ since his Air Force graduation in San Antonio on Labor Day Weekend last year! We’ll be attending St. Peter the Aleut there in Minot.

  3. I love your photo challenge idea! I am discontinuing my Face Book account, and I never have had a Twitter account. Maybe I will post pictures to my blog. I’m glad I found another Orthodox Mom on the web that I can connect with from time to time. It’s so refreshing! Thank you!

    1. Hi Christa! I did the same thing with my personal facebook page. I created a new account with no friends just to keep my blog page up. 🙂 You can definitely post to your blog, just do me a favor and hop by here to let me know so I can check them out! I’m glad you stumbled upon my blog and am always excited to meet other Orthodox moms! Will have to stop by your blog later, too! 🙂

  4. I think I’ll be joining- it’s a great way to get back into the school year groove, and as a catachumen, it’ll be neat to see Orthodoxy thru y’alls eyes. I’m @memoria_arts on Instagram.

  5. Can’t wait to participate. I’ve always wanted to do a photo of the day thing, but always notice them a week into the month 🙂

Thanks for getting one going for us!

PS. I had to giggle at day 2’s photo (breakfast). Maybe we’ll have breakfast for lunch after Liturgy 🙂

    1. Oh my goodness, Erin! I didn’t even realize that until I saw this comment!!! I always do the same thing, I don’t notice them until they’re halfway done. I thought it would be cool to put an Orthodox spin on it. I’ve been loving everyones pics so far!
