7-Day Water Detox

water detox

Yesterday I started a seven day water detox.  It’s a really simple recipe and is a fantastic way to flush your liver and kidneys of toxins.  It also helps you get rid of extra water weight.

  • Pure or Distilled Water
  • Organic Lemon Juice
  • Organic Cranberry Juice
  • Detox Tea (I use Yogi Dandelion Detox)

Mix 7.5 cups of water with 2 Tbsp lemon juice, 1 Tbsp cranberry juice and 1 tea bag.  Let sit for about 15 minutes and drink daily.   (You need to be sure you’re drinking all 60 oz every day)

Detox Water 1

That’s it!  I usually make mine the night before so it’s nice and cold in the morning when I start drinking.  Just make sure you don’t have any long car rides in your near future or you’ll be stopping quite a bit for a restroom!  🙂

Detox Water 2

Note:   A couple people have left comments asking if this is all you eat/drink all day.  The answer is NO!!  There are no required diet changes for this detox.  However, if you have a diet that is high in sugar, carbs, dairy, etc.  I recommend eating less of those things and adding more greens and veggies to your daily intake.   🙂

Thanks so those of you who asked!  That is a very important point that I completely overlooked!

  1. Sylvia, Great recipe! Will be joining in with the detox this week. Perfect to getting a head start on Lent 😉

  2. Is that all you have all day or do you eat food as well?

A true water detox is a water fast and no longer considered a good thing these days as it has been shown to deplete glutathione which is an amino acid that is used a lot by the body for detox.

Low calorie detoxes can also release a lot of toxins from body tissues that are then not able to be detoxified by the liver. So, I hope that this detox includes foods known to support the detox pathways.

    1. Sandy, Yes I am definitely still eating! That’s a great point and I should add a note to the post mentioning that. There are no required diet changes. That being said, people that have really poor diets should try to cut out some of the junk. I have been eating more greens and veggies and have tried to cut out some of my dairy and gluten intake. But that was just my personal choice. Thank you for bringing that to my attention! I would definitely not recommend anything that required not eating for seven days! 🙂

  3. Hello – do you let the mix sit for 15 minutes because you’re using cold/room temperature water? Could you boil some and let the tea seep for a shorter time?

    1. I make it and let it sit overnight. But yes, if you’re not making it the night before you should let it sit for at least 15 minutes or steep it in hot water then add it in after. 🙂
